Tonight I am in DC and I just had dinner at Zaytinya, a restaurant of one of my favorite chefs, the James Beard Award winner Jose Andres. If you have ever seen his PBS show, Made in Spain (episodes available on Hulu by the way), you know how much passion this man has for food. He and his food are incredible.
If you follow this link, you will find a 5 minute video in which Jose (with his daughters) talks with Sam Kass (the White House chef) about making simple, healthy, and economical meals. What I love about this video is that this famous chef is telling folks how to save money by showing them how to buy and prepare a whole chicken and whole vegetables. He shows how essentially the same ingredients can be used for a week’s worth of meals and he shows how you can save time and increase flavor and satisfaction by roasting vegetables whole and preparing dishes that add fresh veggies and protein to your diet.
I love world class chefs who are down to earth. To me, being a foodie means loving food. And in my opinion, there are few people who love and understand food better than Jose Andres.
Cheers,
Larry
