What IS the single best thing you could do for your health? That’s a great question. This video by Dr. Mike Evans claims that activity is the most important thing for health. We agree that activity is very important. However, as he notes in the beginning of his presentation, activity is only one component of a healthy lifestyle. To really achieve and sustain good health one must cultivate not only a sustainable activity / movement practice, but also good nutrition and sleep habits.
This short video is worth watching. It makes a persuasive case for the importance of both low and high intensity movement, which is compelling especially given our cultural emphasis on performance-improving activity. In the United States, activity or exercise is mostly sold to us as something that requires special equipment, and something that should help you become (or be like) a professional athletes. For health, this isn’t true. Health and performance are not linearly correlated and you can achieve many health benefits through activity that doesn’t necessarily improve your ability to jump higher or bench press more weight.

You can make great strides in health by simply standing and walking more (pun intended).
Happy Friday, everyone!
