The conditions of the modern environment can be thought of as the forces, desires, expectations, tools, and conveniences that shape our behavior and dictate a relatively new pattern of life. There are many advantages to living during this time. However, our lifestyles today are vastly different than how humans lived for millions of years.
The mission of Dan's Plan is to help anyone pursue optimal health in our modern world. The specific approach taken to achieve this goal is as follows: 1) Define success in order to understand the direction we are aiming; 2) Build a roadmap to get from Point A to Point B once we know where we are headed; and 3) Walk the path - Are you living a lifestyle today that helps you to be healthy today and tomorrow? We focus on food, movement, and sleep as three fundamental pillars of health, performance, and longevity.
Unless you work against the current environmental forces, the default is to eat too much of the wrong kind of foods, to be sedentary, and get less sleep than optimal. We must therefore take counter measures so that the standard environment doesn't dictate our health. We must also adopt a useful belief system to drive our decisions, and we must actively cultivate our personal environments so favorable behaviors flow naturally.
